
Deputy Speaker administers oath to newly elected Panches of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar
Nawanshahr: The Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha administered the oath to 2822 newly elected Panches of 466 Panchayats of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district today during a grand district-level oath-taking ceremony in Nawanshahr.

During this grand ceremony organized by the district administration, he congratulated the newly elected Panches and invited them to strengthen the ties of prosperity, all-round development and community cohesion of the villages.
He said that the Panchayat members can transform the villages with their active role and take them to the heights of development. He said that the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will provide full support to the Panchayats for every noble work.
He said that it is a matter of great happiness that a large number of Panchayats have been elected unanimously in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district and where elections have been held, they have also been conducted in a peaceful, fair and transparent manner. For this, the entire district administration and the residents of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar deserve congratulations. He asked the Panches to ensure that the hopes and expectations with which the people have elected them are fulfilled in the coming times.
He said that Panchayats are known as the ‘pillars of democracy’ because they have immense power and the decision of the Panchayat is respected by the entire village. He said that Panchayats act as a catalyst to bring the benefits of the people-friendly and development-oriented schemes of the state government to the grassroots level. He said that policies are made by the state government and the Sarpanches and Panches have a big role in implementing them at the ground level. He called upon all the Panches to dedicate themselves to development works from today itself under the leadership of their Sarpanches.
He said that to wean the youth from drugs, the Panchayat members should work hard to make their villages drug-free. He also asked the Panches to work hard to make the villages clean, green and pollution-free. Appreciating the innovative initiatives being taken by the District Administration, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, he said that recently, under the 'New Flight - Information Ride', honoring the newspaper distributors of the district with new bicycles is a highly commendable initiative. Meanwhile, the district administration honored the chief guest by presenting a memento.
