In this case, an attempt was being made to forcibly marry a 15-year-old girl. This information was given by the head teacher of the student's school.
As soon as he received information about this, he took action with the police team and brought the girl home safely from school. After this, the girl's parents were counseled and explained that marriage under the age of 18 is illegal under the Child Marriage Act and there is a provision of punishment for violating it.
The child development project officer-cum-child marriage prevention officer said the girl's parents appeared bound by traditional beliefs. Giving priority to the safety of the girl child, the matter was presented before the Child Welfare Committee, Hoshiarpur. The committee took the statements of the parents and investigated. After this, the Child Welfare Committee decided to send the girl to Nari Niketan, Jalandhar.
After getting the girl medical, she was sent to Nari Niketan Jalandhar on the same day under the supervision of the police team.
