Hoshiarpur - Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Hoshiarpur is conducting a special campaign to convey environmental techniques to the farmers regarding the proper use of natural resources and not burning crop residues. Many progressive farmers of district Hoshiarpur have done commendable work by adopting these techniques, one of them is progressive farmer Amrik Singh of village Talwandi.
Instead of burning the stubble, Amrik Singh has adopted the method of mixing the stubble in the field using super seeder technology. He and his brother Harjit Singh along with Tony cultivate wheat and paddy in a total of 87 acres. For the last three years, they have been mixing paddy straw in the field and sowing wheat.
Amrik Singh says that he has never burnt stubble and after seeing that, other farmers have gradually started managing stubble using Super Seeder.
They say that adding straw to their fields has increased the fertility of their land and they do not need to apply more than the recommended amount of fertilizer. Which has also reduced their expenses and also increased their net income. Amrik Singh has also been honored by the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for the year 2023 for proper management of straw.
