Hoshiarpur - An awareness rally was flagged off by Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Balwinder Kumar Damana on the occasion of the start of Diarrhea Prevention Campaign. It was conducted under the leadership of District Immunization Officer Dr. Seema Garg Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Kamlesh Kumari, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Anita Kataria, Deputy Mass Media Officer Ramandeep Kaur, VCCM Upkar Singh, Navpreet Kaur and tutors and students of ANM Training School participated in this rally. The rally raised awareness about diarrhea by raising slogans related to this year's campaign slogan "Diarrhea prevention, hygiene and care with ORS".
Addressing the rally, Dr. Balwinder Kumar Damana said that the main objective of this campaign is to reduce deaths due to diarrhea to zero. Dast Roko campaign will be celebrated for two months this time from July 1 to August 31. Various activities will be done during this. ORS packets and zinc tablets will be distributed to the homes of children up to five years of age through ASHA or Anganwadi workers. Supply of ORS and zinc has been distributed up to the block level. Demonstration on scientific method of hand washing will be given in all health institutions, Anganwadi centers and schools as only hand hygiene can control diarrhea.
District Immunization Officer Dr. Seema Garg said that if the child gets diarrhoea, then ORS should be started immediately for a short period of time until the diarrhea stops. Even if the diarrhea stops, give the child zinc tablets for 14 days. Treatment with ORS and zinc during diarrhea helps the child recover quickly. ANM or ASHA must be consulted for proper management of diarrhoea. Dr. Seema Garg said that if the child becomes more weak, the child is not eating and drinking milk, the child is bleeding in the stool, not being able to drink anything, fever etc. Take him to the nearest hospital immediately and show him to a pediatric specialist so that proper treatment can be given in time. He said that during this campaign, ORS Zinc Corners have also been set up in all health institutions where demonstrations will be given on the method of preparing ORS solution.
