Intensive diarrhea control fortnight in Una district from June 15

Una, June 13- Intensive diarrhea control fortnight will be celebrated in Una district from June 15 to 30. During this period, ORS packets and zinc tablets will be given to 39205 children aged 5 years and below across the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner Una Mahendra Pal Gurjar gave this information after the meeting of the district level task force constituted for diarrhea control here on Thursday.

Una, June 13- Intensive diarrhea control fortnight will be celebrated in Una district from June 15 to 30. During this period, ORS packets and zinc tablets will be given to 39205 children aged 5 years and below across the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner Una Mahendra Pal Gurjar gave this information after the meeting of the district level task force constituted for diarrhea control here on Thursday.
Additional Deputy Commissioner said that during the Intensive Diarrhea Control Fortnight, ASHA workers will distribute ORS packets and zinc tablets to children up to the age of 5 years by going door to door. Along with this, they will motivate children suffering from diarrhea disease at any level in the area to take them to health centers for proper diagnosis and will identify physically weak children.
He said that during this fortnight, the health department in collaboration with other departments will also provide other hygiene and health related information related to child care to the parents in the district. They will be educated about boiling the milk bottle thoroughly before use, washing their and their children's hands thoroughly with soap and water before feeding them, and other information related to diet and vaccination will also be given.
Participation of Panchayati Raj institutions should be ensured
The Additional Deputy Commissioner urged the representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions to extend their active cooperation in the success of this fortnight so that every Panchayat of the district can be kept safe from diarrhea. In the meeting, he directed the District Panchayat Officer to ensure active participation of Panchayats in the campaign. He asked the officials of the Education and Child Development departments to ensure 100 percent coverage in schools and Anganwadi centers.
Cleaning and chlorination of water sources
Mr Gurjar directed the officials of the Jal Shakti Department to continue cleaning and chlorination of all drinking water schemes and water sources, so that water-borne diseases can be controlled by reducing the chances of polluted water. He asked the officials of the Education Department to pay special attention to making children aware in schools about the importance of hygiene, physical cleanliness and washing hands thoroughly with soap and water.
On this occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner urged the residents of the district to avoid drinking contaminated drinking water and pay special attention to cleanliness to prevent water-borne diseases. He said that consumption of contaminated drinking water increases the possibility of spread of diseases like diarrhea, which affects children more.
ORS-Zinc Corner will be established
In the meeting, Chief Medical Officer Dr. S.K. Verma said that during the Intensive Diarrhea Control Fortnight, ORS and Zinc corners will be set up in the Primary Health Center, Community Health Center, Civil/Regional Hospital in the district. Diarrhea/dehydration diseases will be diagnosed at these corners. ORS and Zinc corners will also be set up in Anganwadi centers.
MOH Dr. Sukhdeep Singh, District Incharge of Diarrhea Control Campaign Dr. Richa, District Panchayat Officer Neelam Katoch, all block medical officers and members of the district level task force were present in the meeting.
