Patiala, June 7 - Additional District Magistrate Madam Kanchan has prohibited public gatherings by any licensed person on the occasion of events in all marriage palaces, hotels, community halls and other places where marriage functions/parties are organized within the limits of district Patiala. It has used its powers under the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 to impose a complete ban on carrying firearms for demonstration and firing in the sky. These orders will remain in force in the district till August 5, 2024.
The order said that it has become a common sight that during marriages, some people carry their licensed weapons in the marriage palaces and during the ceremonies, after drinking liquor etc., these people open fire with the weapons while performing Bhangra on the stage. Many people have lost their lives in such incidents which pose a threat to the lives of the people present in the palaces. It is noteworthy that there are written boards in the palaces regarding carrying of weapons, but no one is following these boards. Therefore, it should be ensured that no person is prevented from bringing licensed firearms into the marriage palaces/hotels so that no untoward incident happens in the marriage palaces/hotels in future. Therefore, it is necessary to take appropriate steps to maintain law and order and protect people's life and property. The owners/managers/administrators of all marriage palaces, hotels, community buildings located in district Patiala will ensure compliance with these orders.
