Nawanshahr- Under the instructions of the Director Women and Child Development Department and the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Ankurjit Singh to strictly implement Project Jeevan Jyot 2.0 against child begging, the District Task Force conducted checks against child begging on Bus Stand Road, Garhshankar Road and Banga Road.
Regarding the checking conducted under the leadership of District Program Officer Jagroop Singh, District Child Protection Officer Kanchan Arora said that due to the continuous checks being carried out regarding child begging in the district, the team did not find any child begging today.
He said that the District Child Protection Unit team is continuously making the public aware about not asking children below the age of 18 for begging and not making them work for labor and if any child is found begging, the unit will admit them to school according to their age and will provide them with the benefits of various schemes being run by the government.
Child Protection Officer Rajinder Kaur, who was present on the occasion, made the shopkeepers and the general public aware that asking children below the age of 18 for begging is a crime under the law. To eradicate child begging from the root, counseling should be done for children and their parents so that instead of asking children to beg, they can be sent to school to connect them with education and create a bright future for them.
Kanchan Arora said that action will be taken against those who ask children to beg under the Juvenile Justice Act. Along with this, it was appealed that if any person sees a child below the age of 18 years begging, then it should be ensured that the information regarding this is given to the District Child Protection Unit, Room No. 416, 3rd Floor, DC Office or Child Helpline No. 1098.
The checking team included Child Protection Officer Rajinder Kaur CPO and Deepak Case Worker, Supervisor Harbhajan Kaur from the CDPO Office, Primary Teacher Mohit Gumbar from the Education Department, Doctor Rupinder Singh from the Health Department, Avtar Singh ASI from the Police Department.
