Chandigarh, October 2 - Haryana Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet for the historic hike in Minimum Support Price (MSP) of all notified crops for Rabi season 2026-27. Terming it a historic and farmer-friendly step, he said that this hike will not only ensure the livelihood of lakhs of farmers but is also a strong response to the recent tariff imposed on Indian agricultural exports by the US government.
Mr. Rana said that this will ensure remunerative prices to farmers, new energy in the rural economy, increase in domestic consumption and strengthen India in global trade. He also said that this decision reaffirms the promise made in the Union Budget 2018-19 in which the target was set to fix the MSP at least 1.5 times the average of the all-India cost of production. The Agriculture Minister said that the new MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 160 to Rs 2585 per quintal, which is an increase of Rs 160, while the MSP of gram has been increased by Rs 170 to Rs 2150 per quintal. The MSP of gram has been increased by Rs 225 to Rs 5875 per quintal, which is an increase of Rs 7000 per quintal, which is an increase of Rs 300. In which there has been an increase of Rs 250 and the MSP of sunflower has been increased to Rs 6540 per quintal, with the highest increase of Rs 600.
The Cabinet Minister said that all aspects including production cost, labour, fertilizer-seed and family labour have been taken into account in these rates. He called this a decision to increase farmers' income and ensure financial incentives in the agriculture sector. He said that this will give net benefit to farmers despite GST cuts and logistics expenses and this step is also strategically important in the direction of self-reliant India.
Mr. Rana said that this decision is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Developed India 2047. Also, the Central Government has approved the Mission for Self-Reliance in Pulses (2025-26 to 2030-31) under which an expenditure of Rs 11,440 crore will be incurred. Its target is to increase pulse production to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030-31, area to 310 lakh hectares and yield to 1130 kg per hectare.
He said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini is ensuring procurement of all 24 crops at the MSP fixed by the Centre so that no farmer is left behind. He also said that the agriculture sector in the state is progressing rapidly through technologies like precision farming, drone monitoring and AI-based advisory.
Terming this increase as a great Diwali gift for farmers, the Agriculture Minister said that this festival of lights will light a new path of prosperity in the lives of farmers, make them self-reliant and inject new energy into the economy of the entire country. He has appealed to all the farmers to register for procurement benefits and take advantage of the state's technological upgrade schemes.
