Karnal, October 2: Anger has erupted across the state over the incident involving farmers in Shyamsukh village, Hisar district. Hundreds of farmers who had come to collect DAP fertilizer stood in long queues for hours, but the administration failed to distribute the fertilizer. This led to chaos at the scene. Instead of rectifying the situation, the police lathi-charged the farmers, worsening the situation.
Bharatiya Kisan Union State President Ratanman strongly condemned the incident, saying that farmers are the backbone of the country. When farmers went to collect fertilizer to save their crops and were lathi-charged by the government, this is a blatant violation of democracy and constitutional rights.
He said that the administration is targeting farmers to hide its own failures, which will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
The State President further asked why farmers should always bear the brunt of the government and administration's failures? The fertilizer shortage and the disorganization of the distribution system are already troubling farmers. In such a situation, using force against them clearly reflects an anti-farmer mentality.
Demands of the Bharatiya Kisan Union:
* An immediate high-level investigation should be conducted into the lathicharge on farmers in Shyamsukh village.
*FIRs should be filed against the guilty officers and police personnel and strict action should be taken.
*Fertilizer availability should be ensured for farmers and black marketing should be stopped.
*The fertilizer distribution process should be made transparent and systematic, so that farmers are protected from being pushed around in long queues and humiliated.
BKU warns of agitation:
Ratanman blamed the government for this incident and warned the Chief Minister of agitation. He said that if the government does not take cognizance of this incident and take concrete steps, the Bharatiya Kisan Union will launch an agitation across the state, and the government and administration will be held responsible for it. He also said that farmers are already struggling with inflation, weather, and market uncertainties.
At such a time, police repression is further increasing their suffering. The government should remember that peace can never be achieved by suppressing the voices of farmers. The Bharatiya Kisan Union appeals to all farmers to maintain peace, but also to unite and raise their voices against injustice.
