Patiala, September 8:- State Awardee, Shiromani Punjabi Children's Literature writer and Sahit Akademi Children's Literature Awardee Dr. Darshan Singh Asht, working at Punjabi University, Patiala, said during a discussion held in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu, during his literary tour of the Tamil Nadu province, that there is a great need for children's literature written in Tamil and Punjabi languages ??to be translated into another language.
Dr. Asht said that works like the world famous English children's book Harry Potter are often translated into languages ??of the world, but the tradition of translating children's literature of different languages ??of India into another language is not yet so dynamic.
If Punjabi children's readers read Tamil children's literature and Tamil children's readers read Punjabi children's literature in translation, then by doing so, they can get to know the language, literature, culture, geography and history of each other more closely.
Dr. Asht expressed concern that social media provides the new generation with information about the latest research and developments in the field of knowledge science, but on the other hand, it is also trapping children in the clutches of misleading and inferior content, due to which the character building of children is going towards decline.
In this critical situation, quality literature can prove to be a solid source for children, which can inspire them to become good citizens by instilling moral values. During this time, Dr. Asht also visited Puducherry and Madras Universities, libraries and literary institutions, as well as Auroville, a beautiful center of literature, culture, sculpture, painting and other arts near Puducherry. The manager of this institution, Mrs. Chitra, appreciated Dr. Asht's suggestion to make the translation tradition of children's literature more dynamic and also presented books written by children's literature writers in Tamil language. During this time, special discussion was held on the children's literature of Tamil Nadu's Indian Children's Literature Award winner Mrs. Ko: Ma: Kothandam, Vishnupuram Saravanan and G. Meenakshi etc. Auroville in-charge Christian, Rohitash, Dr. Rajwant Kaur Punjabi, Dr. Ravi, Dev were also present.
