Vet Varsity Dialysis Unit Secures ?41 Lakh ICAR Grant

Ludhiana 02 September 2025- The Dialysis Unit, Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has been awarded a Experiential Learning Project grant of ?41 lakh by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The project, titled “Strengthening Veterinary Hemodialysis Through Experiential Learning: Transforming Dialysis Unit into an Educational Hub,” will be led by Dr. Randhir Singh, In-charge of the Dialysis Unit, supported by Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Rajsukhbir Singh, and Dr. S. S. Randhawa as Co-Investigators.

Ludhiana 02 September 2025- The Dialysis Unit, Department of Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has been awarded a Experiential Learning Project grant of ?41 lakh by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The project, titled “Strengthening Veterinary Hemodialysis Through Experiential Learning: Transforming Dialysis Unit into an Educational Hub,” will be led by Dr. Randhir Singh, In-charge of the Dialysis Unit, supported by Dr. Gurpreet Singh, Dr. Rajsukhbir Singh, and Dr. S. S. Randhawa as Co-Investigators.
A notable achievement of this grant is the proposed establishment of the world’s first advanced online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) technique in dogs. This milestone will position Vet Varsity at the forefront of veterinary dialysis innovation.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice-Chancellor commended the team for their dedication and innovation in integrating advanced veterinary care with quality education. He emphasized that dialysis for pets is a highly specialized and technically demanding modality globally, practiced exclusively in a limited number of veterinary institutions and since its inception in 2019, the Dialysis Unit at the university has emerged as a national leader in renal replacement therapies for pets.
Dr. S. K. Uppal, Dean of Post Graduate Studies informed that this grant from ICAR for strengthening the dialysis unit will further strengthen veterinary nephrology and dialysis practice in India.
Dr. S. S. Randhawa, Dean of College of Veterinary Science emphasized that the project will substantially enhance experiential teaching by implementing structured workshops and providing hands-on exposure for students and faculty. This unique model seamlessly integrates clinical excellence with skill-based learning.
Dr. J. Mohindroo, Director of Clinics, said that this landmark project is set to transform the dialysis unit into a dynamic educational hub and is a significant stride toward transforming veterinary renal care and education in India and beyond.
