A case has been registered against Bajwa under sections 197(1)(d) and 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Bajwa has filed a petition seeking quashing of the case. Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Bajwa on April 22, although it did not stay the investigation into the case.
The High Court, in its previous hearing on April 16, had directed the Punjab government not to take any strict action against Bajwa in the case till April 22. The court had also restrained Bajwa from giving any press statement in the media in this regard.
It is noteworthy that in an interview given to a private television channel, Bajwa had claimed, “I have come to know that 50 bombs have reached Punjab. Out of these, 18 have exploded, 32 are yet to explode.”
