Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar/Zirakpur, August 22: As part of the "Every Friday, fight against dengue" campaign, teams of the District Health Department today checked various government offices in the district. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain along with the officials went to Zirakpur Municipal Bhawan and checked containers to find mosquito larvae responsible for dengue fever and inspected other potential breeding places for mosquitoes. She appealed to the municipal staff present on the spot to not allow water to stagnate at any place to prevent life-threatening fevers like dengue.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jain said that while all the senior officers of the district health department are personally inspecting the anti-dengue campaign by visiting different areas, the health teams are also continuously conducting checking, issuing challans and awareness activities at their respective levels. He said that on the instructions of the Punjab government, health teams are checking at different places every Friday.
Apart from this, special checking is done every Tuesday and Thursday in those areas where more cases of dengue fever were reported last year. He said that under the leadership of District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni, health workers of the health department, ASHA workers and students of nursing colleges are also explaining the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of dengue fever to the people in detail.
Members of rural health sanitation committees and residents' welfare associations are being included in the inspection teams. During the survey, containers, pots, coolers, refrigerators, boxes and other items are being checked. He said that the only effective way to avoid dengue is to not let water stagnate at any place.
Dr. Jain said that the larva of the mosquito that spreads dengue fever takes the form of a dangerous mosquito in a few days, which can also take the life of a person. He said that there is no fixed season for dengue fever, but usually this fever is more from July to the end of November.
The mosquito that spreads dengue fever bites during the day and breeds in clean water. Dengue testing and treatment is free in government health institutions. For information, the helpline number 104 of the health department can be contacted.
