Due to the lack of cleanliness of the roads, the city dwellers may have to bear a huge problem during the rainy season

SAS Nagar, May 4 – Residents of Mohali city may face a huge problem of rainwater drainage during the coming monsoon season. The reason for this is that this time tenders were issued by the municipal corporation for the cleaning of rain water drainage roads and drainage pipes. But in the meantime, these tenders could not be opened due to the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections and the implementation of the electoral law and due to the non-approval of the Election Commission, this work is pending and it is expected to be suspended until the process of elections is completed.

It has to be mentioned here that every year during the rainy season the city dwellers have to face a serious problem of rain water and the low lying areas of the city get flooded. Meanwhile, apart from Phase 1, Phase 4, Phase 5, Phase 3B2 and Phase 11, there is a huge problem of rainwater drainage in Sector 71 and water enters people's houses. Keeping all this in mind, it can be understood that if the roads and water pipes are not cleaned on time, how serious this problem can be.

Municipal Corporation officials say that they had issued these tenders in the first week of March, which were to be opened after three weeks, but in the meantime, the work was stopped due to the election campaign. According to the officials, the Corporation has also written a letter to the Election Commission and sought the approval to carry out this work, but the approval has not been received so far, due to which these tenders cannot be opened.

In this regard, the SE of the Municipal Corporation Mr. Naresh Bata said that the Corporation has sought to issue approval in coordination with the Election Commissioner, which is expected to be received soon. He said that in the meantime, the corporation has also started the work of mechanical cleaning of the road streets at its own level and the corporation's own employees are doing this work.

It is worth mentioning here that if the Election Commission does not give permission to the Municipal Corporation, then this work will be delayed until the completion of the elections and the rainy season will also start from the first week of June. Even if these tenders are opened in the first week of June, it will take time to issue the work order and start the work by the contractor, due to which there is little chance of starting the work before the onset of monsoons.

On being contacted regarding this, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Mr. Kuljit Singh Bedi said that due to the non-completion of the work of cleaning the roads, the residents of the city may have to suffer a lot. He said that the Election Commission should give its approval keeping in mind the seriousness of this work.

He said that in this regard, the mayor of the municipal corporation will instruct the officials to personally coordinate with the Election Commission and carry out this work immediately so that the residents of the city do not have to bear the problem of rainwater drainage.
