Patiala- On the occasion of the Foundation Day of the Department of Sports Science at Punjabi University, Patiala, while giving information about first aid, CPR fire safety, security to the players, coaches and employees, Mr. Kaka Ram Verma, Disaster Management Civil Defense First Aid Trainer and ASI Ram Saran said that the mortality rate of children and youth is increasing rapidly. Because apart from natural and human disasters, wars, traffic accidents, sudden heart attacks, brain or respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest accidents are increasing.

Kaka Ram Verma said that students and people can be saved only by getting trainings, exercises on health, fitness, safety, rescue and help, reducing accidents and providing proper first aid, CPR, recovery position, ventilator artificial respiration to the victims on the spot. He said that 80% of the deaths of children and youth in Punjab are due to sudden accidents, heart attacks, cardiac arrest, unconsciousness, effects of drugs and poisons, shock, diabetes, blood pressure, stress, drugs, relaxation foods like fast food, junk food, cold drinks.
He conducted various practicals and trained the injured and victims to save them from death, disability and proper transportation, CPR, recovery position, ventilator artificial respiration. University Vice Chancellor Dr. Jagdeep Singh, while honoring Kaka Ram Verma, said that training on first aid, CPR, fire safety, use of cylinders etc. should also be imparted to the students and employees of the university through Kaka Ram Verma ji.
He appreciated the selfless services of Kaka Ram Verma and the efforts being made to run the Red Cross humanitarian activities even after his retirement from the Red Cross Society. On this occasion, the Head of the Department Dr. Anuradha Lahiri, Dr. Paramvir Singh besides the high officials of the university expressed their gratitude and honored Kaka Ram Verma as the great revolutionary and hardworking senior citizen of the century.
