Patiala 02 September:- The Class Four Government Employees Union Punjab (1680) Municipal Corporation's sanitation and sewermen and grade four employees gathered in large numbers in the pouring rain at the Tripari Town water tank in the Patiala-2 Assembly Constituency, where after holding a protest rally, a flag march was held.
On this occasion, State President Darshan Singh Lubana, General Secretary Baljinder Singh, Federation President Jagmohan Nolakha, Municipal Corporation President Babu Ram Babbu, General Secretary Vijay Sangar, Finance Secretary Baljinder Singh etc. leaders led the protest.
Regarding the purpose and demands of the rally, these leaders said that the Health Minister's Office has issued a proforma to the municipal councils of Patiala-2 in the Municipal Corporation, instructing that the daily attendance of the sanitation workers and sewermen will now be taken by the ward councilors.
This has been implemented only in the wards of Patiala-2, the leaders said that such an action taken by the Health Minister's Office is completely against the norms of the municipal corporations and is going to exploit the employees and increase their problems, especially female employees.
These leaders said that according to the rules, only the inspectors posted in the ward have the right to take attendance of the sanitation workers and sewermen and many officers are also posted for maintenance. This will be strongly opposed. After the rally, a protest flag march was held, which ended at Khanda Chowk and the next action will be taken before the Mayor-Commissioner Municipal Corporation office against the demands and exploitation of sanitation workers and sewermen.
The demands of the sanitation workers and sewermen of grade four are pending, which include abolishing the contract system and employing all the employees in the corporation and regularizing all the unskilled employees, restoring the old pension, doubling the number of sanitation workers and sewermen in the corporation, implementing the demands accepted on 29-05-2025, making the minimum wage Rs. 35000/- per month, giving promotions, appointing inspectors according to the number of municipal wards, etc. were more than a dozen issues.
