Release of Prof. Alankar's Sanskrit epic "Hansmanasam"

Chandigarh April 23, 2024:- The new poetry Hansmanasam of Prof. Virendra Kumar Alankar of Panjab University was released by Padmashree Dr. Poonam Suri, Head of All India DAV College Managing Committee, on Mahatma Hansraj Day on April 20, 2024, at DAV Public School, Thermal Colony, Panipat. In this huge epic of 19 cantos, the penance journey of a swan has been depicted, who with full dedication created the Manasarovar of knowledge. This great character was born in Bijwara (Hoshiarpur), Punjab. The name of this great yogi was Mahatma Hansraj.

Mahatma Hansraj took the responsibility of the first Principal of DAV School in Lahore without salary for his entire life. Then he also became the unpaid principal of DAV College. The service that this great ascetic rendered in the area of Multan during the plague, during the earthquakes in Orissa, Uttarakhand, Bihar etc., was amazing. In this modern Sanskrit epic written on such a great character, history has also been preserved and the boundaries of poetry have also been kept in mind.

The credit for enriching Sanskrit literature through this new story goes to Punjab University. Even before this, four-five poetry books of Prof. Alankar have been published. Research work on his poems has also been done in many universities. For the contribution of Prof. Alankar, he has been honored with decorations like Mahakavi Banabhatta Award, Maharishi Vedvyas Award, Maharishi Valmiki Award, Chandigarh Sahitya Academy Award and Sahitya Shiromani (declared) etc.

The Hindi commentary of this poem has been written by Dr. Alankar Sushma, Sanskrit Professor of DAV College, Chandigarh and edited by Mr. SK Sharma. The book has been beautifully published by DAV Publications Department, New Delhi.
