According to information received by news agency ANI, this claim is being made after Akshay Laxman, the Agniveer Gawte of Maharashtra, sacrificed his life while on duty in the dangerous area of Siachen Glacier on Sunday. The information about this financial assistance was given late on Sunday night by the official X handle of ADGPI-Indian Army.
Expressing grief over the sacrifice of Agniveer Gawte Akshay Laxman, the Indian Army wrote on X that we all stand strong with the bereaved family. The post said, “Agniveer (Operator) Gawte Akshay Laxman sacrificed his life in the line of duty in Siachen. In this hour of grief, the Indian Army stands firm with the bereaved family.
According to the post, “In view of the controversial messages on social media regarding the financial assistance being given to the family of the deceased, it is important to clarify that the allowance (compensation) received by the family will be as per the relevant conditions.÷
The post added, "As per the terms of appointment of Agniveers, what will be included in the authorized compensation for combat accidents, including non-contributory sum insured (Rs 48 lakh), contribution of Agniveers (30 per cent) service fund will join Matching contribution from Government and interest thereon, ex-gratia amount of Rs.44 lakhs, payment of remaining tenure till completion of four years from the date of death (exceeding Rs.13 lakhs in the instant case), Armed Forces War Casualty Fund This includes a contribution of Rs 11 to 1 lakh and immediate financial assistance of Rs 30 thousand.
