Una, October 6 - Under the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme, Deputy Commissioner Una, Jatin Lal, today sent off a 50-member volunteer team from the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit, Una, to a training camp to be held at the Regional Water Sports Centre in Pong Dam, District Kangra.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that this seven-day training camp will be held from October 7th to 13th, providing participants with practical training on various aspects of disaster management.
He stated that the role of locally trained youth is crucial during disasters, and this scheme will empower them in the field of social service as well as disaster management.
Jatin Lal stated that a total of 475 youth volunteers will be trained under this scheme in the district by March 2026. These include volunteers aged 18 years and above from the National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Bharat Scouts and Guides, and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Una.
Successful participants will be provided identity cards, disaster management kits, certificates, and study material by the government. After completing the training, these volunteers will assist in relief and rescue operations in various disaster-affected areas of the district and will actively support the administration in disaster management activities.
District Nodal Officer (National Service Scheme), Prof. (Dr.) Lily Thakur, Programme Officer, NSS Unit, Government College, Una, Prof. Manjit Singh, and Rajan Kumar and Dheeraj Kumar from the District Disaster Management Authority, Una were also present on the occasion.
