SAS Nagar, September 4 - The situation in Punjab due to floods caused by heavy rains and water released from dams has not improved much even today. Although the water level has reduced in some villages of Gurdaspur, the situation has become dire due to water coming back to Ghonewal and its adjoining villages in Amritsar.
Along with this, Anandpur Sahib, Ropar, Fatehgarh Sahib and adjoining areas under the influence of Sutlej, Derabassi area of ??Mohali district, Patiala area and Sangrur which fall under the Ghaggar river are also moving towards danger. Due to continuous increase in water level in these districts, the risk of flooding has increased.
These areas were so far safe from floods, but due to the release of more water in the Sutlej and the rising water level in the Ghaggar, the risk of floods has increased in these six or seven districts. As per the administration's order, many people have left their villages and gone to safer places due to the instructions given to the residents of most of the villages on the banks of the rivers to vacate their homes.
If the water level continues to rise in this way, these six or seven districts may come under the flood. The local people are working on strengthening the Dhussi dam in these areas at their own level so that those areas can be protected from the dangers of floods in the event of the Dhussi dam breaking.
