Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visits flood-affected areas of Tanda

Hoshiarpur- Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria today visited the flood-affected areas of Tanda and took stock of the situation on the spot. He first inspected the Rada bridge and assessed the condition of the Dhussi dam and directly interacted with the farmers and listened to their problems.

After this, he reached the relief camp set up at the Government High School in village Miani, where he interacted with the flood-affected people and listened to their problems. He also interacted with representatives of various non-governmental organizations engaged in relief work and appreciated their services. During this, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain apprised him in detail about the flood situation in the district through PPT.
Talking to reporters, Governor Kataria said that in this hour of crisis, the Punjab government and the Central government are standing with the affected people with full force. He said that while the entire team of the Punjab government is engaged in rescue and relief operations day and night, the Union Agriculture Minister and the Central team are also visiting the flood-affected areas.
He clarified that concrete steps will be taken to further strengthen the drainage system in the flood-affected areas. As the representative of the Center, he will take the compensation proposals sent by the district administration to the Government of India and ensure their approval.
The Governor said that this flood has created a serious situation across the state. Relief material is being delivered to the camps in the affected areas. Especially in Hoshiarpur district, which has been affected by the release of water from the Pong Dam, the administration is continuously active. Currently, five relief camps are running in the district, where about one thousand people are staying. Teams of the MLA and the district administration are engaged in relief and rescue operations day and night.
He said that a proposal will be sent to pitch stones on both sides near the Beas bridge for the protection of Dhussi dam, so that the problem of erosion can be relieved in future. The Governor also said that along with the damage to crops, instructions have been given to send a proposal to provide benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the flood-affected households.
On this occasion, MLA Tanda Jasvir Singh Raja Gill, Principal Secretary to the Governor V.P. Singh, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain, SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik, ADC (Development) Nikas Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Oishi Mandal, SDM Parampreet Singh, SP Dr. Mukesh and other administrative and police officers were present.
