Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar 27 August 2025: In view of the health threat due to the rainy season and floods, the District Health Department has issued an advisory for the safety of the people. Giving information in this regard, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain said that there is a risk of water-borne diseases during floods, from which it is necessary to take precautions. He said that diseases like diarrhea, typhoid, jaundice, cholera, skin infections and snake bites can occur due to contaminated water.
Appealing to the residents of the district, he said that they can protect themselves by following the advice given by the Health Department. He said that to prevent and control infectious diseases, only clean water should be used for drinking. Drinking water should be boiled and cooled before use. Hands should be washed with soap and water from time to time to control infection.
Avoid eating food soaked in flood water. If anyone has a fever or diarrhea, visit a medical camp or government health facility and see a doctor and do not self-medicate. If a cluster (i.e. more than 3 cases of infection at one place) is found, the health facilities should be informed immediately.
Contaminated water and insect bites during floods usually cause bacterial (infection) on the skin. To prevent skin infection, rubber boots and full-sleeved clothes should be worn. Visit the nearest government health facility for treatment. Do not buy or use cut fruits and vegetables. Snake bites are common during floods, so try not to go into the water.
If it is necessary to go into the water, wear long boots. If you are bitten by a snake, reach the nearest health facility as soon as possible, where snake bite treatment is completely free. He said that for any health-related information, one can also contact the medical helpline 104.
