Garhshankar-The Aam Aadmi Party government had issued a notification regarding the formation of school management committees in violation of the Right to Education Act 2009, which paved the way for political interference in the management committees being formed in schools. The Democratic Teachers Front Punjab had raised its voice against this interference of the Punjab government and feared that such political interference in schools would have a negative impact on the educational environment. The incidents that took place during the formation of management committees of government schools in Talwara of Hoshiarpur and today in Ramnagar of Sri Muktsar Sahib have proved the apprehensions of the DTF right.
Giving detailed information in this regard, State President of Democratic Teachers Front Punjab Pt. Vikram Dev Singh, Joint Secretary Mukesh Kumar and District President Sukhdev Dancewal said that the Democratic Teachers Front Punjab had raised its voice against the involvement and interference of political personalities in the school management committees being formed in schools at the behest of the Aam Aadmi Party government. They said that the Education Department of Punjab Government has issued a notification in violation of the Right to Education Act, according to which a person from outside the village can also become a member of the School Management Committee.
Earlier in the School Management Committees, parents, an elected member of the Panchayat and an education expert elected by the students could become members of the committee, but according to the new provision, instead of the Panchayat member, an elected representative of the area or his representative has been allowed to join the committee and education experts are also being included in the committee as per the list given by the political party, who have nothing to do with education concerns. The leaders warned that these political personalities will further spoil the atmosphere of government schools in Punjab in the coming time.
The Democratic Teachers Front held the Education Minister Punjab responsible for such incidents spoiling the atmosphere of schools and demanded withdrawal of written and oral orders of such political interference.
