Hoshiarpur, July 12- Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Hoshiarpur Ashika Jain informed that the State Election Commission, Punjab has announced the schedule of by-elections for vacant posts in Gram Panchayats. These by-elections will be held on July 27, 2025 (Sunday) from 8 am to 4 pm through ballot papers.
She informed that after the Gram Panchayat elections held on October 15, 2024, 4 posts of Sarpanch and 151 posts of Panch remained vacant in Hoshiarpur district. These by-elections are being conducted to fill these vacant posts.
District Election Officer Ashika Jain said that nominations can be filed in the office of the concerned Returning Officers from July 14, 2025 (Monday) to July 17, 2025 (Thursday), from 11 am to 3 pm daily. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on July 18, 2025 (Friday). The last date for withdrawal of candidature is July 19, 2025 (Saturday) till 3 pm.
The District Election Officer said that after the polling, the counting of votes will be done at the concerned polling station on the same day. He said that the final publication of the updated voter lists was done on May 23, 2025. He said that the maximum election expenditure limit for the post of Sarpanch has been fixed at Rs. 40,000 and for the post of Panch at Rs. 30,000.
Ashika Jain has appealed to all eligible voters of the district to participate in the democratic process by casting their votes and electing competent public representatives. She said that all necessary arrangements are being made by the administration to conduct the elections in a peaceful, fair and transparent manner.
