
Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain visits villages situated on the banks of Beas river in view of possible floods.
Hoshiarpur- Keeping in mind the threat of possible floods before the onset of the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain today along with SDM Mukerian Kamaljit Singh and SDO of Drainage Department Sukhpreet Singh visited the villages of Naushera Pattan, Hoshiarpur Kalota and Mehtabpur located on the banks of Beas river. On this occasion, she assured the villagers that the Punjab government is fully alert and serious about the possible floods.

On this occasion, she assured the villagers that the Punjab government is fully alert and serious about the possible floods.
The Deputy Commissioner said that keeping in mind the huge loss caused due to the previous floods, the government has already released an amount of Rs. 1.20 crore, out of which studs (protective embankments) have been built for safety on the banks of Beas river and the related work has been completed. On the demand of the villagers, an additional amount of about Rs. 1.5 crore will also be released soon so that stud construction can be done in the remaining areas as well and the villages and agricultural land can be saved from flood water.
On this occasion, the villagers appreciated and thanked the Punjab Government and the district administration for their prompt action. The farmers especially appreciated the efforts of the government to provide uninterrupted power supply and canal water to the farms.
On this occasion, Sarpanch Jaswinder Singh, Numberdar Baljit Singh, Baba Malkit Singh, Numberdar Avtar Singh, Ravinder Singh Rammi, Kuljit Singh, Tarsem Singh, farmer leaders and other villagers were present.
