SAS Nagar, June 28: A general meeting of the Punjab Safai Mazdoor Federation, chaired by State Senior Vice President Shri Mohan Singh, decided that the city’s sanitation work would be halted, and an indefinite strike would begin from June 30.
The Federation’s General Secretary Pawan Godyal said that the meeting discussed the long-pending demands of sanitation workers and the high-handedness of sanitary inspectors. The leaders stated that the demands of sanitation workers are being ignored. They claimed that the Mohali Municipal Corporation has become a hub of corruption, and some sanitary inspectors have violated rules to secure promotions, thereby usurping the rights of sanitation workers.
The leaders said that these sanitary inspectors, in violation of the transfer policy of the Punjab Government’s Personnel Department, have been stationed at the Mohali Municipal Corporation for the past 10-15 years. They demanded an investigation into the properties of these sanitary inspectors and the transfer of all sanitary inspectors who have been in Mohali for 10-15 years.
During the meeting, Mohali President Rajan Chawria, Rajinder Bagdi, Roshan Lal, Brij Mohan, Sachin Kumar, Anil Kumar, Yashpal, Inderjit Singh, Raju Sangeli, and several other leaders were present.
