He got a total of 35179 votes, while the Congress candidate could get only 24542 votes. Similarly, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate with 20323 votes came third and Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Parupkar Singh Ghuman was at the fourth position with 8203 votes.
From the first round itself, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Sanjeev Arora had taken the lead, which he maintained till the 14th round. Although this lead had decreased slightly in the 6th round, it continued to increase and in the end, he came far ahead of his opponents by a margin of 10,637 votes and won.
