JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON, June 21 - Iran and Israel carried out fresh attacks on each other's facilities on Saturday after Iran refused to join nuclear talks a day earlier, fearing an attack or threat, while Europe is trying to save peace talks from breaking down.
Shortly after 2:30 am (2330 GMT on Friday) in Israel, the Israeli military issued a warning of a missile attack by Iran. Air raid sirens sounded in parts of central Israel, including Tel Aviv. Similar conditions were also seen in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
In response, Israeli air defense systems were seen firing missiles to shoot down Iranian missiles in the skies over Tel Aviv. This caused explosions to echo in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. On the other hand, Israel has also carried out renewed attacks on missile storage and launching infrastructure sites in Iran.
Israel’s national emergency service ‘Magen David Adom’ said that sirens also sounded in southern Israel. An Israeli military official said that Iran had fired five ballistic missiles, but there were no initial reports of casualties.
Pictures released by the emergency service showed flames rising from the roof of a multi-storey residential building in central Israel.
