
Haryana government's major preparations before monsoon, officials on alert to deal with floods and inundation - Irrigation Minister Shruti Chaudhary.
Chandigarh, June 9 - Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary said that in order to effectively deal with the possible waterlogging and flooding situation during the upcoming monsoon season, she directed the officials to ensure necessary preparations actively in the field with full caution and readiness. She said that all the projects of the division of work related to flood control should be completed on time so that no waterlogging situation arises in the state during monsoon.
Chandigarh, June 9 - Haryana Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary said that in order to effectively deal with the possible waterlogging and flooding situation during the upcoming monsoon season, she directed the officials to ensure necessary preparations actively in the field with full caution and readiness. She said that all the projects of the division of work related to flood control should be completed on time so that no waterlogging situation arises in the state during monsoon.
Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary held a review meeting with the officials of the Irrigation Department and Public Health Department in Chandigarh on Monday to deal with the possible waterlogging situation during monsoon and regarding the water supply in the state.
In the meeting, the Irrigation Minister was informed that out of a total of 873 drains in the state, 676 are to be cleaned, out of which 470 have been cleaned, the target is to clean the remaining drains by June 20. District-wise reports were also sought from all the district officers regarding emergency, medium term and long term projects for flood control.
The Minister was also informed in the meeting that in the 56th Haryana Drought Relief and Flood Control Board meeting, 209 short term projects were approved, out of which 194 are in progress. He said that the officers should work efficiently and ensure that these projects are completed within the stipulated time. If the work is not completed within the stipulated time, strictest action will be taken.
Commissioner and Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department Mr. Muhammad Shine informed the Minister that in such districts where there is a high possibility of waterlogging due to rain, the purchase of various types of pumps, motors, panels etc. for water drainage and laying of pipelines, cleaning of drains and cleaning of sewers will also be completed as soon as possible.
The Irrigation Minister has directed the officials that wherever the work of drain cleaning is being done, officers of the level of Superintendent Engineer should go to the spot and post live and on social media to convey the information of this work to the general public so that the people are also aware that the work is being done with complete transparency. Shruti Chaudhary finally said that preparation before the flood is the guarantee of public safety.
Haryana Water Resources and Authority Chairman Mrs. Keshni Anand Arora and other officers of the department were also present in the meeting.
