Patiala, June 5: BJP Scheduled Caste Morcha held a Dharna and Protest under the slogan “In honour of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, Bharatiya Janata Party is in the field” against the Aam Aadmi Party led government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
A peaceful Dharna and Protest was held near the statue of Baba Saheb Ambedkar at Purana Bus Stand, Lahori Gate, Patiala today in protest against the tampering, insult and damage to the statues of Baba Saheb Ambedkar in Punjab.
The Morcha was led by Punjab Vice President Paramjit Singh Kainth and Secretary Sonu Sengar and District President Amarjit Singh Uski. The memorandum addressed to Deputy Commissioner Patiala was handed over to the local police officer. Giving information about the main demands included in the memorandum, State Vice President Paramjit Singh Kainth said that Dr. Ambedkar is revered not only by the Dalit community but by the entire Indian society.
Every insult to his statue is a direct attack on social justice and constitutional values. An FIR should be immediately lodged against the elements involved in the recent sacrilege incident in village Nangal and the real culprits should be arrested. He further said that for the security of Dr. Ambedkar's statues installed across Punjab, monitoring of places, CCTV cameras should be arranged and strict legal instructions should be issued to prevent such incidents.
Sardar Kainth said that the insult of Bharat Ratna Dr. Ambedkar's statues continues in Punjab and many such incidents have been taking place since the beginning of this year. Dharnas and demonstrations are being held against the government of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann due to failure to protect them.
BJP leader Paramjit Singh Kainth said that a delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha will also meet the Governor of Punjab to stop such incidents. There is anger and resentment among the Dalit community due to such incidents. Dalit leaders said that the insult of Baba Saheb Ambedkar will not be tolerated at any cost and we will not back down from fighting.
