Noida, May 26 - A 28-year-old head constable of the Noida police team, who had gone to arrest a wanted criminal in Ghaziabad, was shot dead. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rural) Surendra Nath Tiwari said that when the team was taking Qadir, his associates hiding near the Panchayat Bhawan opened fire, pelted stones and attacked them with deadly weapons.
Head constable Saurabh Kumar Deshwal was hit in the head in the attack. The DCP said that he was immediately taken to Yashoda Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. "His death is a big loss to the police department," said a spokesperson for the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate.
He said that Sub-Inspectors Sachin Rathi, Udit Singh, Sumit, Nikhil were injured in the attack. Qadir, who had fled during the incident, was later caught and is currently in custody.
