Mumbai, May 22 - Stock market benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty fell in early trade on Thursday amid US financial and debt concerns. Meanwhile, the 30-share BSE benchmark Sensex fell 578.3 points to 81,018.33 in early trade.
Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty fell 203.45 points to 24,610. However, the BSE benchmark later fell 746.48 points and the Nifty 233.80 points. Among the Sensex firms, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Nestle, Hindustan Unilever, ITC, Tata Consultancy Services and Mahindra & Mahindra were the worst losers. Adani Ports and IndusInd Bank were the gainers.
Meanwhile, the rupee opened 2 paise lower at 85.61 against the US dollar in early trade.
