
Education Secretary Punjab writes letter to Director regarding Geography subject

Nawanshahr, May 22- Realizing the importance of Geography subject in Punjab, Geography Post Graduate Teachers Union Punjab has recently written to Punjab Governor Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and others regarding the shortage of Geography lecturers in senior secondary schools of Punjab, to display the 357 posts approved as per the Punjab Government's gazette notification on the e-Punjab portal, to convert the vacant and surplus posts of lecturers of other subjects into Geography subject, to start Geography subject in 118 Eminence Schools and 174 PM Shri Schools and to make promotions, to give opportunities in transfers and to establish 'Geography Progshala' in senior secondary schools teaching Geography subject. Letters were written regarding issues like Karan etc.
The Office of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the Office of the Governor of Punjab wrote to the Education Secretary School, Punjab Government to take necessary action regarding the demands of the Geography Teachers Union Punjab. The State President of the organization Sukhjinder Singh Sukhi and General Secretary Dilbagh Singh Laparan said that the Education Secretary Punjab Government, School Education Department Punjab (Education-2 Branch) has sent the demand letter of the organization to the Director School Education (Secondary) Punjab in its original form and has written that the demand letter should be disposed of immediately by taking further appropriate action as per the rules/instructions regarding the matter mentioned in the demand letter and the action taken in this regard should be reported to the Punjab Government by informing the concerned union at its level. A copy of this letter has also been sent to the State President of the organization Sukhjinder Singh Sukhi for information.
Director School of Education (Secondary) Punjab has sent an invitation letter to the organization, fixing a meeting date of 23rd May 2025 (12 noon) to discuss the demands of Geography Post Graduate Teachers Union Punjab as per the orders of the Education Secretary, Government of Punjab. Mr. Sukhi said that in the meeting, the organization will present the matter in a strong manner for the interests of students and teachers.
