Maur Mandi- To provide relief to the city dwellers from the problem of dirty water, the sewerage board Maud is laying a sewer pipeline from village Ghasokhana and Maisrakhana to Lasara drain. The residents of village Ghasokhana protested against it along with the farmers union.
As a result, the villagers, farmer leaders and village panchayat leaders who were protesting peacefully were detained and locked up in Nandgarh police station and later sent to jail. It is worth mentioning that the village panchayat had also given a memorandum to the SDM sahab in which it was demanded that the sewerage pipeline should not pass through village Ghasokhana but should be laid directly in Lasara drain along the Bathinda-Mansa highway.
But when the villagers started opposing this pipeline and staged a sit-in, the administration took heavy police force and arrested 26 people including the village sarpanch Harjas Singh, district president of Kisan Union Baldev Singh Sandoha, district leader Resham Singh Yatri, block president Balwinder Singh Jodhpur and sent them to jail.
Earlier, while talking to journalists, Kisan Union leader Resham Singh Yatri and Sarpanch Harjas Singh said that this sewerage pipeline has been laid from Maud Mandi to village Bhai Bakhtaur along the Bathinda-Mansa highway, but now this pipeline is passing through village Ghasokhana.
The place through which this pipeline is passing is very narrow and thousands of trees will have to be cut to lay the pipeline. Apart from this, the road connecting the village and the water supply pipes will also be damaged.
The leaders said that the villagers are demanding that the pipeline be passed under the railway line and it should be directly laid in the Lasara drain along the Bathinda-Mansa highway.
