The basic objective of education is to develop students in all-round manner and teach them life skills. In Punjab, under Gurbani principles, labour is an integral part of the life of Punjabis. School is a unit to mature students in life skills. For some time now, students in schools are being limited to theoretical knowledge by separating them from practical life. Vocational education, N.S.S., N.C.C., agriculture and horticulture, sewing, food production and preservation and social interaction programmes are an integral part of school education.
The Education Department has suspended the school incharge of School of Eminence located at Sri Goindwal Sahib after a video surfaced of him serving food to students associated with Business Blaster under the 'Sikh Kranti' programme. In this regard, the school incharge and victim Gurpratap Singh said that as per the instructions of the Punjab Government, a function was organised in the school in which Harjeet Singh Sandhu, Chairman Market Committee Naushera Pannuan of the area had arrived to inaugurate the development work of the school.
The entire ceremony was organised as per the instructions of the government in which stalls were set up under the Education Department's campaign Business Blaster to create interest among students in the business in which students are working. In this regard, Government School Lecturers Union Punjab President Sanjeev Kumar said that it is unfortunate to link the work being done in the school with the intention of teaching students to child labour. It is never justified for the department to take action without knowing the status of the concerned lecturer in-charge.
He informed that in this regard, the minister was contacted through the media advisor of the Honorable Education Minister Gurmeet Singh Bhalaiyana and the Honorable Education Minister has personally called Gurpratap Singh for a hearing today. In this regard, the state press secretary of the organization Ranbir Singh Sohal said that 'Rani apne pauder dhoon wali goli nahi kahi' i.e. schools belong to the students, are for the students, therefore students should be involved in the maintenance of the school, so that they develop a sense of belonging towards the school.
He appealed to the people with negative nature who call students labourers to refrain from calling the real owners of the school, the students, labourers. At this time State General Secretary Balraj Singh Bajwa demanded the government to reinstate Mr Gurpratap Singh with immediate effect and before taking action on any such issue the facts must be verified and the alleged person must be arrested.
