High-level meeting of trade unions and Sanyukta Kisan Morcha to make the nationwide strike of May 20 a success in Punjab

Patiala 05 May - Yesterday, a high-level meeting of Punjab's state trade unions, federations and Sanyukta Kisan Morcha Punjab was held in Jalandhar to plan for making the nationwide strike of May 20, 2025, supported by the Central Trade Unions and supported by the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, a complete success in Punjab.

Patiala 05 May - Yesterday, a high-level meeting of Punjab's state trade unions, federations and Sanyukta Kisan Morcha Punjab was held in Jalandhar to plan for making the nationwide strike of May 20, 2025, supported by the Central Trade Unions and supported by the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha, a complete success in Punjab. In this meeting, Punjab ATK President Bant Singh Brar and General Secretary Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal, Punjab CITU General Secretary Chandra Shekhar and President Mahan Singh Rori, CTU Punjab General Secretary Natha Singh and President Dev Raj Verma, ACTU President Rajwinder Rana and IFTU President Kulwinder Singh Waraich, from the United Kisan Morcha Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Balvir Singh Rajewal, Buta Singh Burjgill, Baldev Singh Nihalgarh, Raminder Patiala, Ruldu Singh Mansa and Satnam Singh besides Jagdish Singh Chahal, Satish Rana, Jarmanjit Singh, Gagandeep Singh Bhullar etc. prominent leaders of employee federations were present.
The meeting discussed the 17 issues set for the nationwide strike on May 20, 2025 by the central organizations and decided that no stone will be left unturned in the preparation and success of this strike and expressed confidence that the working and victimized people of Punjab will give a befitting reply to the anti-people and pro-corporate policies of the Modi government and all government, semi-government institutions, continuously struggling farmers, farm laborers and medium and small business class etc. will come together and shut down Punjab in an unprecedented manner.
The leaders said that through free trade agreements, the Modi government is giving indications of signing anti-industry, agriculture and retail trade agreements under Trump's pressure. Due to which the agricultural industry and small business class will be badly affected. These businessmen will be forced to go bankrupt. Similarly, the Modi government is going to implement 4 anti-labor labor codes, which will have the biggest impact in the form of loss of all kinds of rights of trade unions and workers.
 Similarly, other demands like rapid privatization of public sector enterprises, permanentization of contact/outsource workers, minimum wage of 26000/- per month, regularization of scheme workers, unemployment, inflation, issues of farm laborers, restoration of old pension, 200 days of work under NREGA and its implementation in cities as well, etc. are the main issues of the strike.
It was also decided in the meeting that on May 16, farmers and trade union leaders will hold joint meetings in all districts and important centers of Punjab to give the final touches to the preparations.
