Punjab AITC Backs Nationwide Strike on May 20 Against Anti-Worker Policies

Chandigarh 23 April: While issuing a statement to the press here today, Punjab AITC President Bant Singh Brar and General Secretary Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal said that a one-day nationwide strike is being called on May 20 by 10 central trade unions, independent federations and associations against the anti-employee-laborer and anti-poor economic and industrial policies of the Modi government.

Chandigarh 23 April: While issuing a statement to the press here today, Punjab AITC President Bant Singh Brar and General Secretary Nirmal Singh Dhaliwal said that a one-day nationwide strike is being called on May 20 by 10 central trade unions, independent federations and associations against the anti-employee-laborer and anti-poor economic and industrial policies of the Modi government. 
The demands for which this strike is being called include mainly repealing the four anti-laborer labor codes, fixing the minimum wage at Rs 26,000/-, restoring the old pension scheme, regularizing contract/outsource workers, providing 200 days of work per year under MNREGA and implementing MNREGA in cities as well, stopping privatization of the public sector, eliminating unemployment, controlling inflation, ensuring social security etc.
Brar and Dhaliwal said that there is a wave of anger among the working class against the anti-national, anti-poor and anti-labor policies of the Modi government. They will express this by making this nationwide strike a success on a large scale. 
The widespread impact of this strike will be seen in Punjab. Employees of electricity, transport workers, contract workers, Anganwadi, ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers, farm workers, MNREGA workers, industrial workers, employees of banks and insurance sector, workers of the unorganised sector etc. are engaged in the mobilization of this strike. Farmer organizations will take to the streets and fully support this strike. 
The leaders have appealed to all labor organizations of Punjab to leave no stone unturned in the preparation of this strike. On 03 May 2025, all organizations should give notice to the organizers regarding the strike on 20 May and special attention should be focused on the success of the strike during the programs of 1st May Labour Day.
