Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), April 6 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Pamban Sea Bridge on the occasion of Ramnavami. This rail link will connect the mainland with Rameswaram island. It is the country's first bridge with a vertical lift mechanism, which can be opened by a vertical lift (lifting up) to allow passage of a ship.

With the commissioning of this bridge, the connectivity of this spiritual place will be better for devotees coming from all over the country and abroad throughout the year. The Prime Minister remotely operated the vertical lift mechanism of the bridge and flagged off the Rameswaram-Tambaram Express and a Coast Guard ship. The new Pamban Bridge and its vertical lift span are the first of its kind in the country.
Mr. Modi will also address a public gathering later, where the Pamban Bridge and National Highway projects will be officially dedicated to the nation.
