Hoshiarpur- MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal and MLA Dr. Ishank Kumar today handed over cheques worth Rs 2 crore to 2,000 beneficiaries of Chabbewal and Mahilpur blocks for house renovation.
Wishing the people on the auspicious days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Navratra, MP Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal said that there is no dearth of funds for development works and these works will be carried out at a faster pace in the coming times. He said that including the grant of Rs 2 crore given today, so far Rs 10 crore has been released to 10,000 beneficiaries for renovation of houses. He said that the Punjab Government has announced a grant of Rs 5 crore annually to the MLAs, which will accelerate the pace of development works in the villages.
The MP appealed to the village sarpanches to keep a close watch on the funds coming into the accounts of the panchayats and said that the village representatives should keep a close watch on the development funds as well as the works for which this amount has been allocated. He said that transparency and efficiency can be brought in public works with the proper approach of the sarpanches. He appealed to the sarpanches not to discriminate against anyone while applying for pucca houses and other welfare schemes, as all the eligible beneficiaries will be given proper benefits.
On this occasion, MLA Dr. Ishan Kumar said that he has set a target to convert all the kutcha houses in the assembly constituency into pucca houses and he will achieve this target soon. He informed that the last date for submitting applications for pucca houses has been extended to 30 April, so that those who could not apply till date can apply now.
Referring to the sports infrastructure in villages, Dr Ishan Kumar said that along with the construction of playgrounds in all villages, facilities like tracks and gyms would also be provided. He also praised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Finance Minister Dr Harpal Singh Cheema for presenting a people friendly budget and said that all sections of the society have been included in this budget under welfare initiatives.
Dr Ishan Kumar said that development funds worth Rs 4.50 crore would be disbursed soon which would give further boost to development works in villages. He said that the remaining works would also be completed soon. On this occasion, Panchayat members received cheques and thanked the MP and MLA for the all-round development of the area.
