PM Modi announces India's 'Ocean' vision for the Global South

Port Louis - Amid China's full-scale push to expand its influence in the region, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday unveiled a grand vision of security and development for the Global South in Mauritius. Modi made the remarks after witnessing the signing of several key agreements between India and Mauritius with his Mauritian counterpart Naveen Chandra Ramgoolam in the island nation's capital. The two sides sealed eight agreements that provide for cooperation in several areas, including maritime security, trade in national currencies and capacity building.

The two sides sealed eight agreements that provide for cooperation in several areas, including maritime security, trade in national currencies and capacity building.
In his media statement, Modi announced that India's new vision for the Global South will bring about "Ocean" or "mutual and comprehensive progress for security and development in the regions".
On the second and last day of his visit to Mauritius, Modi announced, “Our vision for the Global South will be Ocean – mutual and inclusive progress for security and development in the regions.”
“Our vision is focused on trade for development, capacity building for sustainable development and mutual security for a shared future,” he said. Modi termed Mauritius as an important partner of India.
He also recalled how India’s vision of ‘Sagar’ or ‘security and development for all in the region’ was laid out in Mauritius 10 years ago.
