Mohali, Feb 25: To prevent dengue fever cases in the upcoming season, the district health department is imparting sensitization training to nursing college students in the district. Civil Surgeon Dr Sangeeta Jain said that the district team led by District Epidemiologist Dr Anamika Soni has trained around 1500 students of various nursing colleges and made them aware about the symptoms, causes, prevention and treatment of the deadly disease.
She said that the aim of this campaign is to involve nursing students in the anti-dengue campaign and to promote the recently launched "Har Friday, Dengue Te Vaar" campaign by the Punjab Government. Apart from this, it is also a part of their studies. The students have been told that dengue is a viral infection, which spreads among people through Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Symptoms of dengue include sudden high fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, severe pain in joints and muscles, red rashes on the skin, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, etc. One should avoid taking medication on their own if symptoms of dengue appear. The way to prevent this is to not let water accumulate in homes and around them and other places, because mosquitoes breed in clean and stagnant water that is easily available in homes.
If for any reason one gets dengue fever, there is no need to panic. The patient should go to the government health facility center, where dengue testing and treatment is absolutely free. The health department's helpline number 104 can also be contacted. Photo caption: Dr. Anamika Soni training students.
