National Commission for Women committed to improving the living conditions of women in jails: Manmohan Sharma

Dr. Manmohan Sharma, Law Officer, NCW who attended the event as Chief Guest said that the NCW is committed to uplift the quality of life of women in prisons in the country and to improve their living standards so that they can be released and enter the mainstream society with dignity.
He said that for this reason the Commission has designed programmes for ‘institutional collaboration’ in the field of research, academic and legal reforms which can lead to drastic and very practical reforms in the laws relating to women prisoners in various states. The book “Technology, Media and ‘Youth’: Exploring the Context of Sustainable Development and Growth” edited by Dr. Jasleen Kewlani, Convener of the Legal Counselling Programme was also released at the inaugural function. Dr. Jasleen Kewlani said that the event proved to be historic as it led to a lively discussion on improving the quality of life of women in prisons, which would lead to effective reforms in the existing laws and policy formulation and operational amendments. Prof. Naresh Vats, Dean Academics, Rajiv Gandhi National Law University also addressed the gathering.
