Nawanshahr- The state level meeting of B.Ed Teachers Front Punjab was held under the chairmanship of Harvinder Bilga, state president. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Bilga said that the B.Ed Teachers Front strongly opposes the new order issued by the government to provide desi ghee halwa and whole chickpeas in the mid-day meal. He said that a new letter has been issued by the education department, in which children are to be given one more day of ration in a week along with chole puris and desi ghee halwa.
The government has increased the amount of mid-day meal only in money, due to which the entire burden is falling on the teaching class. He said that desi ghee, which is being sold in the market for 800 to 1000 rupees, is causing great distress to the entire teaching class due to this surprising decision. Due to high inflation, there is already a lot of difficulty in running mid-day meals in schools. The government has issued this new order. On this occasion, Surjit Raja, the state general secretary, clearly said that the government should first release an advance amount of Rs 15 per child for desi ghee halwa or else desi ghee should be provided in the schools through the department itself. The government's order to provide seasonal fruits to children has already increased the teachers' expenses, for which the government is not paying on time. The government is not controlling inflation due to black marketing, due to which everything is being sold at exorbitant prices.
The government itself sends the expenses according to the old government rates, due to which it has become very difficult to run the expenses of mid-day meals. He demanded that Markfed or Verka should ensure the supply of desi ghee in schools along with seasonal fruits through the Horticulture Department.
He also said that according to the new order issued by the department, kheer is also to be served with Raj Mah rice on Tuesday. He said how is it possible that rice and kheer can be served at the same time and how will its record be completed.
The leaders demanded that this menu be changed immediately. Bikramjit Kaddon, Gurdeep Singh Cheema, Jujhar Sanhugra, Gurdial Mann State Press Secretary, Balwinder Lodipur, Gurwinder Kheri, Varinder Vicky, Prem Thakur, Satprakas, Balwinder Singh, Parvinder Singh, Ajitpal Singh Jassowal and Satnam Singh etc. were present in the meeting.
