Nawanshahr/Banga - A condolence meeting dedicated to the memory of world-renowned tabla player Ustad Zakir Hussain was organized by the Music Department of Sikh National College Banga under the leadership of Principal Dr. Tarsem Singh Bhinder. Addressing the students during this, Principal Dr. Tarsem Singh Bhinder said that Grammy Award winner Ustad Zakir Hussain has given global recognition to Indian music by playing tabla in various countries of the world for almost six decades.
For which he has been awarded Padma Vibhushan, Sangeet Natak Academy, Grammy and many other awards and today many music students are getting tabla training inspired by him. He also said that although Zakir Saheb is no longer in this world, he will be remembered for his dedication towards tabla and the heights he has reached today.
Professor Gurpreet Singh, while addressing the students, also said that despite being a top class artist, Ustad Zakir Hussain did not give up his creativity till the last moment, which I have seen with my own eyes. And due to playing the tabla of the Punjab Gharana, he has a special attachment with Punjab and Punjabis. On this occasion, Principal Dr. Tarsem Singh Bhinder, the staff present and the students paid tribute to Ustad ji's picture and observed a minute's silence for his soul's peace.
On this occasion, the Principal gifted a memorable picture with her teacher Zakir Hussain to Inderpreet Kaur, a talented student of the music department of the college. On this occasion, Dr. Gurvinder Singh (Dean Cultural), Dr. Kamaldeep Kaur, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Dr. Nirmaljit Kaur, Dr. Davinder Kaur, Dr. Navneet Kaur, Prof. Kishore and Prof. Tajinder Singh along with the students of the music department were present.
