Nawanshahr: CPI(ML)-New Democracy has expressed deep concern over reports of attacks on minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh since the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government. Communal forces from the majority Muslim community of Bangladesh are targeting the homes and religious places of minorities. The interim government of Bangladesh initially described these attacks as not communal but targeting supporters of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League and their administration is doing everything to ensure that such attacks do not occur. However, the continued attacks against the largest minority in Bangladesh indicate the failure or unwillingness of the Bangladesh government. There is a need to take effective steps against such attacks and communal forces. Senior leaders of the Punjab unit of CPI (ML)-New Democracy, Comrade Darshan Singh Khatkar, Comrade Ajmer Singh Samra and Comrade Kulwinder Singh Waraich, have called upon all democratic, progressive and pro-people forces to come forward against such attacks. They said that the unity of the people against communal and divisive forces is the best guarantee of communal peace and harmony.
They said that the CPI (ML)-New Democracy views the protests in Bangladesh against these attacks positively. A large number of people have participated in these protests. We hope that all anti-communal forces will join such protests. The students of Bangladesh rose up against the authoritarian role of Sheikh Hasina. Students from various political organizations participated in this rally.
The people of Bangladesh supported this rise of students. The attitude of the Bangladesh Army forced Sheikh Hasina to flee Bangladesh on August 5, 2024. In the wake of widespread agitation, communal forces attacked minorities and their religious places. It is the duty of the interim government that the security forces protect the lives, property and religious places of minorities.
The CPI (ML)-New Democracy has condemned the attempts by the ruling RSS-BJP to use the reports of these attacks for their anti-Muslim propaganda here. They said that the attacks on minorities, their properties and their religious places under the leadership of BJP and RRS are a deliberate attempt to use these unacceptable incidents in Bangladesh for their agenda. Their statements are useless as they are furthering the anti-minority agenda in India and want to make this country a Hindu Rashtra.
His claim of standing with minorities in Bangladesh is hypocritical in the light of the attacks on minorities and their religious places in India. He said his party condemns the reactionary ruling classes of India and Bangladesh who want to maintain their anti-people rule by dividing people on religious lines and targeting minorities.
In fact, the ruling regimes in India and Bangladesh and their actions help communal forces in both countries. People should rise up against these conspiracies, strengthen their unity and join hands to fight against anti-people rule and policies.
