SAS Nagar, January 14, 2025: In compliance with the orders passed by the National Green Tribunal, the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, Government of Punjab vide its Notification No. 3/25/23-STE4/293 dated 05.07.2023 exercising powers conferred under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 has issued directions that manufacture, sale, storage, purchase, supply, import and use of China/Manjha Door (string/thread made of nylon, plastic or synthetic material or any such string/thread (synthetic/glass/sharp metal coated) not conforming to the standards of the Government of Punjab) for kite flying is strictly prohibited.
The Punjab Pollution Control Board has said that if any person violates the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 or directions issued thereunder, he will be fined a minimum of Rs 10,000 Which can be up to Rs 15 lakh.
The Pollution Control Board has appealed to the people of the state not to use banned Chinese thread/nylon/synthetic thread for kite flying and cooperate with the government in this noble cause. He said that if any person is found selling/storing/supplying/importing/using China thread, then inform in this regard on toll free number 1800-180-2810. The informer will be given a reward of up to Rs 25,000/- (terms and conditions apply) and his name will be kept confidential.
