Discussions held during the seminar to create a drug-free society

Patiala, November 26: Under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, a program was organized by the Dean Student Welfare Office of Punjabi University in collaboration with the Center for Distance and Online Education on the occasion of ‘World AIDS Day’. This seminar, organized on the topic of ‘Drug Abuse and HIV’, was discussed with the aim of creating a drug-free society and thus creating a bright future for India.

Patiala, November 26: Under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, a program was organized by the Dean Student Welfare Office of Punjabi University in collaboration with the Center for Distance and Online Education on the occasion of ‘World AIDS Day’. This seminar, organized on the topic of ‘Drug Abuse and HIV’, was discussed with the aim of creating a drug-free society and thus creating a bright future for India.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner, Civil Surgeon’s Office, Patiala and Dr. Abhimanyu Rampal, Project Director, Meher Foundation, Panchkula participated as speakers on the occasion.
Dean Student Welfare Prof. Monica Chawla, while delivering the welcome address, said that important steps are being taken in this regard on the Punjabi University campus. He said that the Drug Free India Committee formed in the campus is active and keeps on doing various activities. He said that this committee has Dr. Onkar Singh and Harpreet Kaur as wardens and Dr. Ruby Gupta as counselor and student representatives of various hostels have also been included.
Additional Dean Student Welfare Dr. Naina Sharma introduced the topic of the seminar and explained its various aspects.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh in his speech gave information about the services being provided by the Central and Punjab Government in various drug de-addiction centers and other government hospitals including Rajindra Hospital Patiala. The Director of the Center for Distance and Online Education Prof. Satyabir Singh presented the vote of thanks. About 200 students attended the seminar.
