KVK SAS Nagar organizes Kisan Mela on crop residue management

SAS Nagar, November 14, 2024: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) organized a Kisan Mela on the topic 'In-Situ Crop Residue Management' at KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) Farm, Majra, District Mohali. The event was presided over by Dr. Prakash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as the Chief Guest.

SAS Nagar, November 14, 2024: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) organized a Kisan Mela on the topic 'In-Situ Crop Residue Management' at KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) Farm, Majra, District Mohali. The event was presided over by Dr. Prakash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana as the Chief Guest.
A large number of farmers/women and officers of various departments of the district attended the event. Dr. BS Khada, Deputy Director, KVK Mohali welcomed all the participants and briefed them about the activities of the KVK. The Kisan Mela started with a technical session. In which Dr. Rajesh Kasrija, Dr. Prateek Dhaliwal, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Dr. Aparna, Dr. Ankurdeep Preeti, Dr. Jagmanjot Singh (Expert from KVK Ropar), Dr. RS Ghuman and Dr. Navneet (Expert from FASC, Ropar), Dr. Anil Bana, Soil Conservation Officer, SAS Nagar (Mohali), Dr. Kamalpreet Kaur HDO, Dr. Raman Karodia Agriculture Officer (Majri) gave lectures on various aspects of paddy stubble management.
Dr. PS Brar, Director Extension Education made the farmers aware about burning of crop residues and highlighted its adverse effects on soil, human and animal health. He appealed to the farmers to use paddy stubble so that the production of livestock can be increased. Progressive animal husbandry and agricultural farmers of the district also shared their experiences in stubble management and the benefits of not burning stubble. They also acknowledged the support provided by KVK Mohali and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
Exhibitions were also organized on the occasion in which several collaborating departments, private companies, FPOs, self-help groups and entrepreneurs displayed their products. Progressive farmers/women were also honored for their contribution in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry during this Kisan Mela. A street play was also performed by National Fertilizers Limited. Prof. Dr. Harmeet Kaur (Plant Protection), KVK Mohali thanked the dignitaries, farmers and staff members for their active participation in the program.
