
Orders issued to ban Pregabalin medicine with a quantity of more than 75 mg
Patiala, November 13 - Patiala Additional Deputy Commissioner (J)-cum-Additional District Magistrate Isha Singhal has banned the sale and storage of medicines, tablets and capsules with a quantity of more than 75 mg of Pregabalin under the Indian Civil Safety Code-2023.

The orders of the Additional District Magistrate have said that wholesale and retail sellers of medicines, chemists, medical stores, pharmacies inside hospitals or any other person will not sell Pregabalin medicine with a quantity of more than 75 mg to anyone without a genuine doctor's prescription slip.
This ban was imposed in view of the information given by various social organizations in the district. A committee has also been formed under the leadership of the Civil Surgeon, which has also prepared a report on the side effects of taking Pregabalin that Pregabalin medicine in quantities exceeding 75 mg is misused and is used as a drug. Similarly, a meeting was also held with representatives of the Indian Medical Association, Patiala and the Chemist Association, who justified the ban on it. Additional District Magistrate Isha Singal further said in the orders that the committee has said that this medicine is prescribed to patients by very few doctors and that banning the medicine of Pregabalin in quantities exceeding 75 mg would be suitable for the betterment of the society. Additional Deputy Commissioner Isha Singal said that in view of this, the sale and storage of such medicine has been banned in Patiala district with immediate effect. The Additional District Magistrate has ordered that all concerned shall maintain detailed records of the purchase and sale of this medicine. Apart from this, the original prescription of the doctor for the medicine containing more than 75 mg of Pregabalin shall also be stamped with the trade name of the chemist/retailer, date of dispensing and quantity of medicine dispensed. The orders have said that the medicine with a dosage of more than 75 mg can be provided as per the requirement of the patient in the medical store run by the District Red Cross Society, Patiala at Rajindra Hospital, but the Secretary Red Cross shall maintain a complete record of it and shall be responsible for it.
