ITUSA Lawn Tennis and Chess Tournament Kicks Off at PEC, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, October 6, 2024:- The Inter Technology University Sports Association (ITUSA) is currently hosting an exhilarating Lawn Tennis and Chess Tournament at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh from October 6th to 8th. With over 100 participants from prestigious institutions like PEC, IIT Ropar, Thapar University, SLIET, NIT Delhi, and others, the event showcases remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

Chandigarh, October 6, 2024:- The Inter Technology University Sports Association (ITUSA) is currently hosting an exhilarating Lawn Tennis and Chess Tournament at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh from October 6th to 8th. With over 100 participants from prestigious institutions like PEC, IIT Ropar, Thapar University, SLIET, NIT Delhi, and others, the event showcases remarkable sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Intense competition is taking place as participants battle it out on the court and chessboard, demonstrating their skills and determination. This annual event, organized by PEC as part of ITUSA, brings together the best talents in lawn tennis and chess from multiple technical universities, making it a true celebration of sports in the academic arena.
Dr. D.R. Prajapati, Dean of Student Affairs at PEC, graced the event as the chief guest. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of sports in overall personality development, praising the enthusiasm and energy of the participants. Dr. Prajapati expressed pride in hosting such a significant event that promotes healthy competition and camaraderie among students. Dr. M.P. Garg, the Additional Dean of Student Affairs (Sports), along with Associate Professor Mohit Tyagi and Finance Head Sarabjit, plays key roles in organizing the tournament. Their combined efforts ensure the smooth execution of the event, leaving participants and spectators alike impressed with the quality of the competition and the seamless management.
PEC has been the proud host of ITUSA annually, reinforcing its commitment to fostering inter-university sports competitions and promoting athletic excellence among technical institutions. The tournament highlights the growing importance of sports in technical universities, fostering unity among the participating institutions.
In the lawn tennis matches, PEC boys dominated with scores of 6-0 and 6-1 against IIT Ropar, while the PEC girls faced Thapar University with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 in their matches. The chess results from the first round also reflect the competitive spirit of the event. In the girls' team category, NIT Delhi triumphed over PEC Chandigarh, while Thapar University emerged victorious against SLIET Longwal. In the boys' team results, Thapar won against SLIET, while the match between IIT Ropar and NIT Delhi ended in a draw. PEC Chandigarh received a bye in this round.
This vibrant and energetic occasion is set to be remembered as a milestone in the ITUSA calendar, further solidifying PEC's dedication to promoting sports annually.
